A remarkable renovation of the Renasant Convention

Renasant Convention Center in Memphis

With its 300,000 square feet of flexible exhibit and meeting space, Renasant Convention Center is one of the largest buildings of its kind in Memphis. As such, it’s not a surprise that every architectural photographer wants a look at it, as well as an opportunity to take pictures of it. And as it happens, our expert architectural photographer Chad Chenier managed to do both.

A Venue Worthy of Memphis

As the home of rock n’ roll and blues, Memphis is the dream destination of many tourists across the globe. Who wouldn’t want to see the place Elvis Presley called his home, after all? And for that reason precisely, Memphis is the perfect place for conventions, exhibitions, and events of all kinds.

But of course, all those events need a proper venue to be held at. And now, after almost two years of renovation, there finally is one. Renasant Convention Center proudly reopened its doors in December 2020, boasting huge exhibition spaces, lofty meeting rooms, and stunning river views. The final result of the Renasant renovation was as unique and exciting as Memphis itself.

We can safely say that the project was a success, but that should come as no surprise. After all, the contractor behind the renovations, Yates Construction, finalized the project at $200 million upon its completion. Yates Construction is family-owned and construction and building services company.  Incorporated in 1964 by William G. Yates Jr., Yates Construction has grown over the years to become one of the top commercial and industrial construction companies in the United States.

A Look Inside Renasant Convention Center

Once the Renasant Convention Center’s renovations ended, our famous architectural photographer Chad Chenier visited its premises. Unsurprisingly, the size of the building left quite an impression — it has a large exhibit hall, a ballroom for big events, 46 meeting rooms, and the Cannon Center for the Performing Arts. Even in a city as big and exciting as Memphis, Renasant Convention Center is impossible to miss.

But what truly impresses all visitors is the building’s interior. The meeting rooms are large and airy, with open spaces and glass walls. There’s quite a modern feel to this convention center, almost minimalistic in style, and yet the carpets and art pieces bring a much-needed dash of color. Our architectural photographer has seen and captured a lot of blues, beiges, and whites — colors that make the space look even bigger than it is.

But perhaps our favorite thing about the venue is its location. Situated right on the Mississippi, Renasant Convention Center offers wonderful views of the river. Many of its meeting rooms are located on the river side, so visitors can enjoy the sights through the glass walls. There is also a river balcony, though — perfect for meetings and events on warm summer evenings.

A Renovation Renasant Convention Center Needed

After witnessing the final results of the multi-million-dollar renovation, we can safely say that the Renasant Convention Center needed it. It’s easy to imagine thousands of people gathering here for various events and exhibitions. The new center offers enough space but also feels cozy and avoids coming across as cold and sterile. And that is, without a doubt, quite a feat for a building of this size.
